Angry Egret Dinette opened in October 2020, during the height of pandemic shutdowns as a quick-serve pop-up. Chef Wes Avila, known for weaving the influences of his Mexican-American heritage with the flavors of the many diverse neighborhoods of Los Angeles, was restless and anxious with the impact of the pandemic and had been considering launching a new restaurant concept to provide much needed employment to the hard hit service industry. By luck, the very next day a colleague floated the idea of taking over a closed coffee shop location for a temporary pop-up. Angry Egret opened its quick serve take out window one week later!
After a few weeks demand made it clear that this patio oasis needed to become permanent. As pandemic limitations loosened dining restrictions, the dinette grew to include an outdoor atrium dining area and an indoor dining area inspired by old Chinatown. The small scale of Angry Egret Dinette allows Chef Avila to create specials that change weekly, if not daily, so diners will be guaranteed a unique experience every time.
